"Holley cheered us all up with a song called 'They're Lying'... Without amplified sound, I was afraid that her song would not be heard with horns blaring in the din of midtown traffic, but her lilting voice wafted through the air as she furiously sang 'Don't gag my mouth, let me speak.. They're lying to you as they call you loyal.. It's about power it's about oil.. You're media propagandizes lies.. They're lying to you!' As Holly played, a couple of cops unconsciously tapped their feet to her punky folk song. There was something satisfying about hearing radical non-corporate music outside of MTV headquarters as they couldn't capitalize on Holly's music. " -Priya of MediaChannel.org 3-17-06
"Really, it was an awesome night... And then, Holley played a passionate, driving, lovely song about how the war is a way for the ruling class to divide us... And, I was never so happy to be a green! We rocked the joint!" - Kimberly Wilder of the Suffolk/ Nassau Greens
The first performer, at 2:00 PM, was HOLLY GOANARCHY , a young woman who performed a set of "anarcho-feminist punk-folk", though it was all quite tuneful and sang in a lovely voice. Her lyrics spoke of anger with injustice, particularly from a feminist perspective. One song was edgy even in title--"Why Am I Not a Lesbian?" --which humorously detailed the many shortcomings of the male gender. Admittedly, some of the older folks in the audience seemed a bit uncomfortable at points (the last line was quite funny to most, but some of the more delecate sorts seemed to cringe at "why am I so fucking hetero?"!), but ultmately Holly was strongly applauded. What struck me was how open and genuine she came across onstage. I think that there's a big place for her in the community of folksingers. -John Pietaro of the Flames of Discontent posted on 10/17/06
